We insure horses based in Australia as well as countries such as New Zealand, Germany, and the United States. Our diverse portfolio includes Dressage Horses, Pony Club Horses, Western Horses, Pleasure Horses, and Show Jumpers.

The basic policy we offer provides cover for:

  • Mortality, Theft & Straying - for horses up to and including 20 years of age located in Australia and New Zealand, including whilst in transit.

Further to this, we can offer the following optional extensions:

  • Public Liability - limits of $1 million, $5 million or $10 million
  • Restricted Loss of Use - for horses aged 2 up to and including 20 years of age (not available for horses involved in polo/crosse)
  • Breeding Loss of Use - for Colts/Stallions aged 2 up to and including 15 years of age (not available for fillies/mares)
  • Cosmetic Loss of Use - Horses aged 2 up to and including 15 years of age
  • Life Saving Surgery - covers reasonable veterinary fees incurred as an attempt to save the life of an insured horse up to $5,000
  • Saddlery & Tack - up to the value of $20,000
  • Personal Accident - cover for the rider

Our horse insurance policies are offered on a simple all included price with no excesses for Mortality, Theft and Straying cover.



Who we insure

Our horse portfolio is diverse including Dressage Horses, Pony Club Horses, Western Horses, Pleasure Horses and Show Jumpers, with horses based here in Australia or overseas in countries such as New Zealand, Germany, and United States.

As well as providing insurance to cover your pleasure, performance or bloodstock horses, we also offer Livestock Insurance to cover your cattle, sheep, alpaca, working dogs, birds, emus - almost any other type of animal.

Horse Mortality Insurance

Cover for death, or euthanasia on humane grounds, resulting from an injury or illness.

For horses up to and including 20 years of age.

Nil excess on each claim.

Sum Insured^

Plus up to $200 for Post Mortem Examination or Autopsy Report

Sum Insured limited to $5,000 for horses aged 16-20 years.

Horse Theft or Straying

Theft or straying where the horse is not recovered within 90 days, plus up to $300 for advertising and reward.

Nil excess on each claim.

Sum Insured^

Plus up to $300 for advertising and reward

Sum Insured limited to $5,000 for horses aged 16-20 years.

Loss of Entry Fees

Loss of irrevocable entry fees up to $300 following a claim under Section 1 - Mortality.

Nil excess on each claim.

Horse Public Liability

Cover for your legal liability in respect of accidental:

  • death, bodily injury, illness, or disease of any person;
  • loss of, or damage to, tangible property arising from your ownership and use of the insured horse.

Cover includes legal costs.

An excess of $250 to each property damage claim.

Loss of Use for Horses - Restricted

Cover in the event of an injury or illness that results in the horse becoming totally and permanently incapable of fulfilling its principle use as stated. This does not cover infertility or cosmetic scarring. Horses aged 2 up to and including 20 years of age.

Nil excess on each claim.

75% or 100% of Sum Insured^, depending on keeping or euthanising horse.

Sum Insured limited to $5,000 for horses aged 16-20 years.

Loss of Use for Horses - Breeding

Cover in the event of injury or illness that renders the Stallion/Colt totally and permanently impotent, infertile or incapable of natural service. Horses 2 up to and including 15 years of age.

Nil excess on each claim.

Sum Insured^

Loss of Use for Horses - Cosmetic

Covers permanent scarring following an injury, illness and/or cosmetic condition which renders your horse permanently incapable of fulfilling its principle use as state in the schedule because of its appearance. Horses 2 up to and including 15 years of age.

Nil excess on each claim.

Sum Insured^

Life Saving Surgery & Snake Bite Veterinary Fees

Coverage for reasonable veterinary fees for general anaesthetic surgical procedures performed to save the life of your horse.

$500 excess on each claim.

$2,000 sublimit for treatment of a diagnosed snake bite.

Saddlery & Tack

Loss or damage to your riding equipment up to the value of $20,000.

An excess of $50 applies to each claim.

Personal Accident & Dental Cover

We will pay:

  • $5,000 for death, permanent disability, loss of sight or limb
  • $2,500 for death if the deceased is under 18 years of age
  • $750 for dental treatment

Nil excess on each claim.

*Note: This foregoing is only a brief summary of the cover for horses with a sum insured of up to and including $100,000 and you are advised to read the Policy Document closely for full details. The Policy Document is available for inspection upon request or from this website. Cover will not attach until the application is accepted and premium paid.

^Note: We will pay a sum not exceeding the market value of your horse shown in the schedule at the time of loss or the sum insured shown in the schedule whichever is lower.


Veterinary Certificates

A recent certificate must be provided if:

  • the sum insured is more than $25,000
  • the horse is intended for polo / polocrosse / endurance
  • you nominate 'loss of use' cover
  • the horse is aged more than 12 years
  • you require cover for foals under six months of age

Conditions for Restricted Loss of Use Examinations

Up to $25,000 sum insured:

  • Inception and Renewal Requirements: Veterinary Certificate including Flexion and Hoof Tests of all four limbs.

$25,001 to $100,000 sum insured:

  • Inception Requirements: Veterinary Certificate and X-Rays (see page 4 of the Veterinary Certificate. for required views.)
  • Renewal Requirements: Veterinary Certificate including Flexion and Hoof test of all four limbs. If lapse in cover (exceeding 2 weeks) then revert to Inception Requirements to reinstate policy.
